Autonomous Robot Competition
For UCI course MAE106, we were tasked with designing and fabricating identical autonomous vehicles for a race. The project tested our ability to design for ease of manufacturing, assembly and application of control systems. During the race, each robot was scored based on the distance it traveled along a narrow track to which they need to stay within the lines using integrated sensors and a magnetometer. Our team placed first place in the race. Our vehicle featured a variable gear ratio to tune depending to the needs of the race, independent suspension at each wheel to conquer the bumpy race track, as well as a designed lower center of gravity to decrease the likeliness of the robot of being toppled over along with a wheelie wheel if bumped by other robots.
